An explosion at the Sandman Signature hotel in Fort Worth, Texas, sent debris flying onto the streets and left 11 people injured, including one individual in critical condition. According to authorities, the blast was caused by natural gas, which likely ignited and caused the explosion. The incident occurred in a busy area just a block away from the Fort Worth Convention Centre, where a number of people were caught off guard by the sudden blast.
First responders were quickly dispatched to the scene, where they found a chaotic and dangerous situation. Firefighters had to navigate through piles of rubble, shattered glass, and mangled metal to reach any survivors. The explosion left a trail of destruction, with debris scattered across the street and nearby buildings damaged.
As authorities worked to clear the area and provide aid to the injured, they urged people to avoid the area due to the lingering smell of gas and the risk of further explosions. Medics treated a total of 15 people on the scene, with two individuals in serious condition and the rest suffering from minor injuries. Additionally, four individuals were treated but did not require hospitalization.
The Sandman Signature Fort Worth Downtown Hotel, located just blocks away from the downtown area, has 245 rooms and was built in 1920 as the “Waggoner Building” in honor of cattle rancher and oilman William Thomas Waggoner. The building has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1979, making it a significant part of the city’s architectural heritage.
The incident is a sobering reminder of the potential dangers of natural gas explosions and the importance of public safety measures in place to prevent such incidents.
