Joanderson Brito, a rising Brazilian featherweight, has had to pull out of his upcoming fight against Dan Ige because of a leg injury he got during training. This injury delays his plans to fight Ige, which he had eagerly awaited after his win over Jack Shore at UFC 301. The fight was set for July 20 at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, but Brito’s injury has put his fighting plans on hold.

Brito is expected to be out of action for six to eight weeks before he can resume full training. As a result, Dan Ige is now seeking a replacement opponent for the upcoming UFC Fight Night event.

Brito’s injury is a setback after a strong start in his UFC career, where he won five of his first six appearances, including a winning streak of five consecutive fights. He had been vocal about wanting to fight Ige, first calling for the matchup after his October 2022 victory over Lucas Alexander and continuing to do so after each subsequent win.

Ige, who holds an 18-7 record and is ranked No. 15 in the featherweight division by MMA Fighting, had agreed to the bout for July 20. With Brito’s withdrawal, Ige will need to find a new opponent to maintain his fight schedule. This development is a significant disappointment for Brito, who will now have to wait longer to fulfill his goal of fighting Ige.
