The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India strongly criticized a documentary released by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), accusing it of containing blatant falsehoods and biased reporting aimed at tarnishing India’s image. According to MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, the documentary titled ‘Spies, secrets, and Threats:

How the Modi regime targets people overseas’ was deemed to be unprofessional and reflective of a specific agenda against India. Jaiswal emphasized during a weekly briefing that the documentary’s allegations lacked factual basis and appeared to glorify terrorism, particularly referencing its coverage of Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.

Jaiswal’s remarks underscored the Indian government’s categorical opposition to any attempt to condone or justify terrorism. He criticized the documentary’s narrative, suggesting that its foundation was questionable and aimed at maliciously targeting India.

The MEA’s statement emphasized that the documentary’s claims about interference in Australia’s national security were made without substantiating evidence, further adding to its credibility concerns.

The ABC documentary allegedly insinuated that the Indian government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, engages in activities abroad that threaten national security in other countries.

This portrayal, according to Jaiswal, not only lacked journalistic integrity but also failed to provide a balanced view, thus raising serious doubts about its motives and objectives. The Indian government’s response aimed to refute these allegations and highlight what it perceives as a biased and agenda-driven approach by the documentary makers.

The MEA’s critique of the ABC documentary centered on its assertion that the film propagated falsehoods and a prejudiced narrative against India.

The strong condemnation reflected India’s stance against any portrayal that undermines its reputation and security efforts on the global stage, particularly amidst allegations of terrorism glorification and biased reporting by international media outlets.
