The Celebrate Fox Lake Parade, held on June 29, 2024, marked a vibrant kickoff to Independence Day celebrations in Lake County, themed “Red, White and Blue.” This event, along with various others in the area, showcased the community’s early festivities.

Highlights included a downtown car show, activities at the newly renovated Lakefront Park, and an evening fireworks display over Nippersink Lake. The parade itself featured over 30 entries, drawing enthusiastic participation from both residents and visitors alike.

Jennifer Kuhn, Fox Lake’s program and events manager, expressed how the parade resonates deeply with the community, becoming a beloved tradition for many. She also highlighted the recent completion of the long-awaited Lakefront Park development, a $12 million investment that includes amenities like pickleball courts, a boardwalk, piers, and a playground.

The parade route along Grand Avenue was a focal point, where local dignitaries like Mayor Donny Schmit and the village mascot, Beacon the Pelican, joined in the festivities. Emceed by Michael Lescher, the parade featured patriotic songs and commentary, continuing a tradition that Lescher has been a part of for over three decades.

Chris Johnson, CEO of Tivoli Enterprises, Inc., and this year’s grand marshal expressed gratitude for the community’s support of Classic Cinemas, highlighting their long-standing presence and appreciation for the local area. The parade also featured pageant royalty from various nearby towns, emphasizing community inclusivity and pride.

Miss Round Lake Area 2024, Darby Leetch, used her platform to advocate for foster children, emphasizing the broader impact of pageants beyond glamour, focusing on fostering confidence and supporting vulnerable children in transition.

Reflecting on the event, attendees like Danice Moore from the Fox Lake Lions Club underscored the importance of community engagement and the creation of lasting memories, especially for younger generations. Despite challenges in volunteer recruitment, organizations like the Lions Club continue to play a vital role in community service and support.

The Celebrate Fox Lake Parade and accompanying festivities not only honored Independence Day but also showcased community spirit, unity, and the ongoing development of Fox Lake’s recreational amenities, marking it as a memorable occasion for all involved.
