Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) has once again defended Donald Trump’s controversial actions at Arlington National Cemetery’s Section 60, where Trump took photos with military families. During a discussion on *Meet the Press*, host Kristen Welker questioned Cotton about the legality of Trump using these photos and videos for campaign purposes.

Cotton maintained that Trump did not break any laws, asserting that the families involved had invited him to take the photos and wanted him there to honor their fallen loved ones.

The controversy stems from Trump’s visit to a wreath-laying ceremony at Section 60, where 13 service members who died during the 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal are buried. Trump took photos with the family of Marine Staff Sgt. Taylor Hoover at his gravesite, which has sparked a broader debate about the appropriateness of his actions.

While Trump’s team claims they had permission to film, cemetery and defense officials have denied this, further fueling the dispute.

The situation escalated when reports surfaced of an altercation between a cemetery staff member and Trump’s campaign team, who allegedly tried to stop the photo-taking. The Trump campaign has denied that any physical confrontation occurred.

In defense of Trump, Cotton has shifted the focus to criticize the Biden administration, blaming President Biden and Vice President Harris for the deaths of the 13 service members, and praising Trump for honoring their sacrifice.

Cotton also addressed concerns raised by the family of another fallen soldier, Master Sergeant Andrew Marckesano, whose gravestone appeared in the photos Trump took with the Hoovers. Marckesano’s sister expressed her wish for the soldiers buried in Section 60 to be respected.

Cotton responded by emphasizing that the families of the 13 service members who died in Afghanistan specifically requested the photos and that it was inevitable for other headstones to appear in the background due to the proximity of graves in Arlington.

Ironically, Cotton’s defense of Trump contrasts with the reverence for Arlington National Cemetery that he expressed in his 2019 book *Sacred Duty*, where he described the unspoken code of conduct visitors are expected to follow at such a sacred site. Cotton’s shift in tone highlights the complexity and tension surrounding the issue, as he continues to stand by Trump in this contentious matter.
