Late Sunday, Israeli airstrikes in central Syria resulted in significant casualties, with more than a dozen people reported dead and at least 40 others injured, according to the state-run Syrian news agency SANA. The airstrikes targeted several areas, including the Tartous and Hama governorates, leading to multiple civilian casualties and extensive damage.
SANA reported that there were several explosions and engagements with air defenses in the central region. The strikes reportedly resulted in a fire on the Wadi al-Uyun highway in Masyaf, which firefighters were working to control. The strikes particularly affected the Masyaf area in the Hama governorate.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) did not provide any comments on the reports when contacted by CNN. The IDF generally refrains from discussing such incidents, especially those covered by foreign media.
Dr. Faisal Haidar, Director of the National Hospital in Masyaf, reported to SANA that the death toll in Masyaf had risen to 14, with at least 43 people injured. Out of the injured, six were reported to be in critical condition, highlighting the severity of the attacks.
According to SANA, the strikes were launched from the direction of northwest Lebanon and targeted several military sites in central Syria. Syrian air defenses were able to intercept and shoot down some of the missiles, but the strikes still caused significant damage and casualties.
