Netanyahu Warns of Heavy Consequences After Houthi Missile Strikes Central Israel

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned Yemen’s Houthis of severe consequences after they launched a missile deep into Israel. The missile, fired early in the morning, appears to have fragmented mid-air and landed in an open area in central Israel. Fortunately, there were no casualties, but the attack marks a significant escalation, given that central Israel is usually shielded from such assaults.

The Houthis, backed by Iran, have confirmed the attack and boasted about using a “new hypersonic ballistic missile.” They also threatened more strikes as the anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attack approaches. This development is noteworthy because it represents a rare instance of a missile penetrating so far into Israel, which usually enjoys a higher level of safety from such long-range threats.

In his response, Netanyahu emphasized that Israel would impose a “heavy price” on those who try to harm it. This warning follows Israel’s recent military actions, including a strike on the Yemeni port of Hodeidah in July, in retaliation for a deadly drone attack on Tel Aviv. Additionally, Israel faced a barrage of projectiles from Lebanon, with around 40 crossing into its northern region. Some of these projectiles were intercepted, while others landed in open areas.
