French Court Gripped by Dominique Pelicot’s Confession in Decade-Long Orchestrated Rape Case, Sparking Nationwide Outrage

Dominique Pelicot’s court hearing has brought to light a disturbing case that has captured nationwide attention in France. On Tuesday, Pelicot confessed to drugging his wife and orchestrating her rape by numerous individuals over nearly a decade.

The trial, one of the most sensational in recent French legal history, had to be postponed last week due to Pelicot’s deteriorating health. He faces charges including rape, gang rape, and privacy violations related to recording and distributing sexual content.

Appearing with a cane and frequently taking breaks due to his medication, Pelicot addressed the court through a microphone, expressing deep remorse for his actions. He admitted his guilt, described himself as a rapist, and pleaded for forgiveness from his wife, children, and grandchildren, although he conceded that his actions might be unforgivable.

The trial has sparked a significant public response, with nationwide protests supporting Gisele Pelicot and condemning sexual violence.
