Ex-policeman Jailed for Seven Years for Sexual Offences

Doxider Siddique, a former student police officer, has been sentenced to seven years and seven months in prison for committing sex crimes against a 13-year-old girl. He was training with West Midlands Police at the time and had been interacting with the girl online, claiming to be offering her support while actually grooming her for sexual purposes. Siddique’s victim was a vulnerable young girl who had never known him before he began contacting her online.

The 23-year-old was arrested after a bus driver witnessed him acting inappropriately towards his victim in March 2022, while Siddique was on long-term sick leave from the police force. He pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual activity with a child in January and was sentenced by Judge Sarah Buckingham at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday.

The police force did not hesitate to arrest and suspend Siddique, and a robust investigation was launched to establish the full extent of his abuse. Deputy Chief Constable Scott Green of West Midlands Police expressed his disgust at Siddique’s behavior, stating that it was a “sickening criminal act” and that he knew his fellow officers would be repulsed by it.

Siddique had joined the police force as a student officer in August 2021 and had never been deployed in an operational role. He went on long-term sick leave in November 2021 and resigned in March 2022 while in custody following his arrest. His resignation was a direct result of his own criminal behavior, which was exposed by the bravery of the bus driver who reported his inappropriate behavior.

Lauranne Middleton, district crown prosecutor for the CPS, said that Siddique grossly abused his position of trust as a student police officer and as an adult to meet and sexually abuse a child. She emphasized that the overwhelming file of evidence presented to the court left Siddique with no option but to plead guilty to his appalling crimes.

The NSPCC spokesperson commended the bravery of the young victim and the actions of the bus driver who spoke up about Siddique’s behavior. They also emphasized the importance of reporting any concerns about child safety and encouraged anyone with concerns to seek support to help protect children. The NSPCC helpline is available for adults with concerns about a child’s wellbeing, and children and young people can contact Childline for support.
